We have a company registered in Karnataka. We have 10 employees. Recently, a few of our employees moved to Tamil Nadu state as we have a work-from-home policy. They will work permanently from there. My question is, as we pay professional tax in Karnataka, do we also need to pay Tamil Nadu PT for the employees who moved to TN?

PT is a tax levied and collected by a Local Administrative Body like panchayats, municipal corporations, etc., from the residents who engage themselves in any profession within their territories.

Therefore, if WFH becomes a regular feature, the employees have to pay their PT to the local body in whose area they reside and do the WFH.

I do agree with Umakanthan. It's quite an interesting point for discussion.

Please note that the employees are not working in other offices in TN, but WFH is a benefit extended to the employees due to the pandemic or various reasons. Still, such employees' work location is mapped to Karnataka only. Hence, I feel it's to be paid to Karnataka only.
