Sir, Can an employee merge his GPF account with the EPF account? If it is possible what are the procedures for merging?

Dear Sandhya,
GPF is applicable to government employees, whereas EPF is applicable to industrial employees. GPF is administered by the Accountant General, whereas EPF is managed by the EPFO. Therefore, it is not possible to merge one with another.

Dear Umakanthan sir,
I also faced the same situation during the early days of my job career. After completing my studies, I joined an establishment following GPF & DCRG/CCR rules. After 3.5 years, I switched to a CPSU following EPF (Trust) PGA/PBA. Consequently, I couldn't transfer my previous balance to the EPF Trust and had to encash it. However, in this link, the poster informed that with special permission (though vice-versa), PF transfer was possible. Can you please share your views on similar instances/practices or rules you might have come across regarding this matter?

Dear Mr. Kumar,
Already, in respect of Central Govt employees who belong to non-pensionable services, the Contributory Provident Fund Scheme has been in vogue under the Contributory Provident Fund (India) Rules, 1962. For employees belonging to the pensionable service category, GPF is applicable. If I remember correctly, those employees who enter service on or after 01-04-2003 are not eligible for a pension but are entitled to CPF. There is a provision in the CPF Rules, 1962 for a changeover to GPF in case of Govt employees getting transferred to a pensionable service later. Here, the facility of transfer from one service to another is the criterion for conversion.
If the same analogy is applied, there is no possibility of conversion from EPF to GPF as inter-services transfer is not available between Private/Public Sector and Govt Services. Hence, in my opinion, there is no possibility of transferring funds from CPF to GPF and vice versa except for the final withdrawal when the subscriber ceases to be a member.

Thank you, sir. This is just for information. During that time, my CPSU informed me that if the parent employer was willing to transfer the cash equivalent of EPF, Gratuity, and leave, they were willing to accept the carried forward credits to be merged with the Trust's account. Since I needed money for my marriage, I chose to withdraw. In the process, I also lost the credits to the gratuity and leave accounts.
