Hello Seniors,

Can anybody suggest if we can use biometric in this current scenario? Do we have any guidelines/circulars mentioning biometric not to be used in the industry? We are located in Mumbai and want to start biometric; are there any restrictions imposed on using biometric in manufacturing units?

Biometric Systems in the Current Scenario

In the current scenario, biometric systems could be used. However, the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by State/Central Governments and District Administration shall be strictly followed, including social distancing, sanitizing, thermal screening, etc.

Precautions for Fingerprint Systems

In systems where fingerprints are used, a big bucket of soapy water with a clean cotton cloth shall be made available. Employees shall wash their hands with soapy water and also clean the surface of the biometric device where the finger or thumb is placed, before and after displaying their fingerprint/thumb.

Supervision and Manual Attendance Alternatives

It is also advisable to have one company supervisor's presence during the check-in/check-out of staff members, especially in cases where a large number of employees are working.

For companies with a small number of employees, instead of using a biometric system, a manual attendance system could be implemented. The security guard at the main gate of the factory/establishment can note the names of employees at the entry and exit times.
