My company has 3 factories and one office (registered office) in Maharashtra. Additionally, we have 1 factory in Rajasthan, 1 factory in Telangana, and 1 factory in Haryana. Do we need to register only in Maharashtra or do we have to register separately for each state and deposit the deducted Profession tax in different states?

Hello Ananddas,

You have to have separate registration under Prof. Tax for every state. Thus, only you can deposit the PT recovered from employees working in the respective state(s). You should also note that PT rates differ from state to state, and some states do not levy PT at all. For your guidance, refer to the PT acts of the respective states (Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana) and adopt the rates prescribed therein.

Hi Kumar S.,

As I read, there are 2 registrations: one for deducting Profession Tax (PT) from employees' salary and another for paying PT by the company. Do we have to obtain these 2 registrations separately for different states?

Thanks,
Regards
Anand
