We are an Internet Service Providing company. Currently, 40% of our employees are female. We are planning to start a women's club for our staff to build strong relationships in the workplace and provide specific training, etc. Please share your views and suggestions.

The purpose of forming a club is commendable. However, before doing so, you should consider the ground realities on these aspects:

1. The age groups of women in employment.
2. How many of them are there?
3. What are the aims and scope of forming such a club, and how did the thought or necessity to form it come into the limelight?
4. What is the proximity of the workplace to their dwellings?
5. What type of facilities and activities is your company proposing to provide?
6. Are you aware of the financial and other commitments involved, and can you afford the initial expenditure and recurring expenses? If any subscription for membership is to be imposed, are they willing to contribute/share?
7. Is it going to be only for women employees or for their families as well?
8. Is it going to be a registered society or unregistered, like welfare clubs?
9. Do you think of any other commercial/welfare activities for the benefit of members, such as a consumer co-op, training facilities for learning skills like tailoring, handicrafts, cooking, yoga, health club - conducting free health check-ups, etc.

This club should rightly be on a 'no loss, no gain basis' so that the financial burden is not passed on to your firm if it’s not able to afford it.
