Hello, I was terminated from my recent job in August. I resigned from my previous job in May 2017. Since then, I haven't mentioned anything about my new job on my resume, resulting in a 6-month unemployment gap. Can you advise on how I should address this gap if asked about it in an interview?

Dear Friend,

Whether you have been terminated or resigned? It seems you are hiding, of course, it is your problem. What experience have you gained in all these six months? Have you tried anything new during this period? Have you ever spent some time exploring job opportunities for the future? This will help you fill out the form.

Hi there,

Being honest, the right option should be chosen. As our friend suggested, try to overcome your weaknesses and update yourself in technologies and areas of shortcomings.

If you need to explain that you have been let go, very few companies might be interested in hiring you. You could mention personal reasons at home for leaving the job, or alternatively, mention that you tried your hand at a business venture that did not work out. Very few companies will be understanding of such situations.

Whenever you want a solution, come out with the truth, so that learned and experienced members of the community will show you the right path. In your posting, two things are mentioned: one is "Resigned in the month of May," and the second one is "Terminated in the month of August." This gives me the impression that your new employer terminated you from the job you took in May 2017 after resigning from the first job. Your reasonable job continuity is up to May 2017.

You are not alone; there are many people with job discontinuity who have still secured jobs. Job selection is a skill, and if one matches the skill requirements of the employer, the employer will still want to know the reason for the gap. There are several reasons (family, health, higher study, etc.) for which people leave jobs. One should skillfully offer an explanation that is beyond doubt. Do not allow anyone to act on you; be genuine.
