Dear All,

As per the appointment order, my notice period is one month. I submitted my resignation letter on 24/07/2017 through both email and a handwritten copy. Our management acknowledged receipt on 05/08/2018. However, the HR Team now states that they accepted it on 05/08/2017, and I should work until 05/09/2017. Please confirm which date is correct - my resignation date or the date it was accepted.

Thank you.

Hi Mohan,

This varies from one company to another. Should there be no policy on how HR is accepting the resignation letters, my best suggestion is to just follow the HR. The approval may have been two weeks delayed, but it is good to show that you are respecting HR's request. In this way, both will have a peaceful separation. You may never know, if you plan to go back to them and since you have shown a good attitude towards HR procedure, you might get a chance again.

On the other hand, if you are preparing to join a new company, tell them honestly about the notice period. If they really want you, they will wait for you.

Best of luck in your future endeavors!
