Hello Seniors,

I have 11 years of experience in HR in a Generalist/HRBP role. I am interested in transitioning into a counseling or consultancy role. I have completed a PGDBA in HR. Are there any courses or certifications I should pursue to make this move?

Dear Aprajita,

Hitherto, you have worked as an employee, and that too in HR. Therefore, the noteworthy point is: will you be able to sell your consulting or counseling services? Your business will depend on your ability to sell and not just on the knowledge or skills that you have.

Moving forward, you may conduct market studies to identify to whom your services are applicable and how your services will be different. There are many retired HR professionals who will be your competitors. Hence, you need to have an action plan to compete with them.

Lastly, considering the type of job, your previous role was sedentary. Now, you are looking to transition to a profession that requires movement, either intra-city or inter-city. Therefore, you need to be mentally prepared for this new role.

Please consider all the above aspects.

Thanks,
