I am working on creating a recruitment source database for a retail company in Bangalore. The company wants to hire part-timers for sales jobs at their retail stores. So, I am targeting students from evening colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, training centers, NGOs, etc. The company is targeting financially backward candidates since the position is an entry-level job and part-time.

They have a morning slot from 10-3 pm and an evening slot from 4-8 pm, I think. So, I need to target students or any graduates who will be available during these timings. How can I get the list of colleges where these students will be studying or such sources from the internet? How to get the students from these colleges interested in working part-time at a retail store for a salary lower than 10,000 per month? Communication skills are required for these jobs. The company has also observed that most of the salespeople leave the organization after 3 months to join BPOs or the nearest competitor. So, how to convince these candidates to come work for a low-paying sales job?

I am in the process of developing a database in Excel where I need to add the list of colleges in Bangalore where prospective candidates can be found. I am stuck in the development of this database since most of these colleges don't have an online presence and I can't even find their phone no online. Please guide me on how to go about developing such a database in Excel?

To build a recruitment source database for your HR planning project in Bengaluru, targeting students from specific colleges and institutions for part-time sales roles, follow these practical steps:

1. Identifying Target Colleges:
- Start by reaching out directly to colleges, ITIs, polytechnics, and training centers in Bengaluru. Contact their administration offices via phone or email to inquire about student availability for part-time work.
- Visit these institutions in person if possible to establish a direct connection with the placement cell or career services department.

2. Utilizing Online Resources:
- Explore online platforms like social media, job portals, and professional networking sites to search for students or graduates from relevant educational backgrounds.
- Engage with student groups or forums on platforms like LinkedIn or Facebook to promote part-time job opportunities at the retail company.

3. Creating an Outreach Strategy:
- Develop a compelling job advertisement highlighting the benefits of working part-time at the retail store, such as gaining valuable experience, developing communication skills, and potential for growth within the company.
- Emphasize the flexible working hours and the opportunity to earn additional income for financially backward candidates.

4. Retention Strategies:
- Implement retention strategies like mentorship programs, skill development workshops, or performance incentives to motivate salespeople to stay longer with the company.
- Conduct exit interviews to understand the reasons behind employees leaving for BPOs or competitors and address any common concerns proactively.

5. Excel Database Development:
- For colleges without an online presence, consider reaching out to local educational authorities or associations for a list of institutions in Bengaluru.
- Compile the contact details of these colleges, including phone numbers and email addresses, in an Excel spreadsheet for systematic tracking and outreach.

By following these steps, you can effectively build a recruitment source database and attract suitable candidates for part-time sales roles while addressing retention challenges in the retail industry.
