Absence without authorization and response
As a government employee, I have been absent without authorization for 3 months. The department sent me a show cause notice to reply within 14 days. I responded after 16 days, stating that I am sick and due to unavoidable family circumstances, I cannot come in. Despite providing a few medical certificates, I do not have a strong reason for my absence. The department has now published an advertisement in the newspaper stating that I failed to respond to the show cause, and this is the final notice to appear before the competent authority within one week.
Considering resignation or attending the hearing
I am unsure whether I should submit my resignation with immediate effect or attend the hearing to see what actions they take, possibly termination. Alternatively, I am considering not attending the disciplinary hearing at all. My primary aim is to leave the job with a clean record.
Questions about resignation and notice period
Can I apply for resignation after being absent without authorization? Would I be required to give notice and serve the notice period or return the salary I received for the 3 months I was absent (as they did not pay me for that duration)? How can I avoid termination and exit the job safely?
