Dear folks,
I have been working in HR for the past 12 years. I started my career as a Recruiter and then transitioned into a Generalist role. For over 8 years, I have been working in the Non-IT industry in Chennai and I am currently based in Bangalore. I am currently seeking a job change. However, whenever I apply for HR positions in the IT industry, consultants and HR professionals from that sector often respond by stating that they specifically require HR professionals with IT industry experience.
I am genuinely curious about the perceived differences between HR roles in the IT industry versus the non-IT industry. I would greatly appreciate your insights on this matter.
Thank you.

Hi Indra,
Yes, there is a difference in IT as the recruitment is more technical in nature, and the policies are pretty different in terms of:
- On-Site Work Policy
- Relocation Policy
There are very employee-oriented policies. I have also joined the IT industry from a non-IT industry. This is the difference I found. But then, a person can easily learn these things in a month's time. The recruitment is very different.

Hi,
There would be a considerable difference in the policies and the recruitment process. Also, the appraisal pattern will work differently.
For a recruiter to switch from Non-IT to the IT industry would be a little difficult, taking into consideration the niche demand the IT industry keeps throwing at recruiters. Having said that, the recruitment cycle, i.e., from job description to onboarding, remains the same.
Good luck with your job hunt.
