Dear sir,

Please tell me, what is a mock drill and how is it conducted? How many types of mock drills exist in safety, and should they be conducted annually or more frequently? Do we need permission from the government for conducting a mock drill?

Thank you.

Safety Rules and Evacuation Plans

There will be safety rules provided by every government. Where a large number of people are employed in any industry or office, an evacuation plan should be in place and practiced at least once a year. Obviously, the type of product the factory makes will be important. If there are hazardous processes, specific plans for fire and explosions will be needed. Check with the government department that controls your industry.

Hospitals, nearby police stations, and fire stations will need to be kept in the loop for the exercise of mock evacuations. A detailed plan for various contingencies such as fire, explosions, and terror attacks will have to be drawn up. This should include how the guards have to react and where staff will assemble after evacuating the main building. Plans should be broken down into small steps and disseminated to Heads of Departments (HODs), etc. The subject is vast but very important in case any eventuality takes place.
