The Legacy of Human Resource Development Legends
The function of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the country has a glorious past and a promising future. Many individuals have not only contributed but have studied in-depth, researched, defined, developed theories and concepts, applied, and further developed tools to enhance India's human resources. Some of these individuals have worked quietly throughout their lives, and many continue to contribute. However, the irony is that they have not been well recognized, except for a few.
Yes! They are legends of HRD. Being a legend in any field is not just about considering oneself a legend; it is derived from how the rest of the world perceives them. It is a matter of perception based on the work they have presented to people, how it was received, how it impacted people's lives, how industries and organizations adopted it, and how future generations are guided and benefited by their work.
What Defines a Legend?
Being a legend doesn’t solely consist of being good at something, being well-known for a short period, or simply being famous or rich. It goes beyond that, meaning one has done something in their life that has changed society's way of thinking and inspired many. They have accomplished something unprecedented. A legend's legacy, thoughts, and contributions to the community in shaping people's lives are irreplaceable.
People remember and admire legends deeply because they prefer to go against all odds, travel the road less traveled, or never before traveled, and leave their imprints for generations to follow.
Why Highlight Legends of HRD?
What prompted us to bring out an issue on Legends of HRD? Simply put, our research revealed that not much is known or documented about them and their work in the country, except for a few. Identifying gems in the glittery world was daunting. We decided on some parameters:
1. Contributions spanning 30-40 years or above 60 years of age
2. Publications: Preferably impactful books
3. Impactful teaching or facilitating learning for large numbers
4. Impactful changes introduced in organizations or Government, etc.
5. Character and values
We sought support from many, including TV Rao Learning Systems, to make this issue a reality, and we received immense support, for which we express our sincere thanks.
BM does not claim that the personalities included in this issue are the only ones or final. Others might have been inadvertently left out as we could not reach them, or some did not respond to our request in time. However, we tried our best to include as many as possible, respecting both living and past legends of HRD who meet our criteria.
Presenting the Anniversary Issue
BM proudly presents the anniversary issue featuring living legends of HRD and those who have left us, allowing readers to learn more about them, their work, and their impact on HRD.
In this issue, we are compelled to withdraw our regular features due to space constraints. We hope readers will forgive us for this limitation.
