Offer from a Consultant's Client: Seeking Clarity

I have received an offer to work for a reputed 'client' of a consultant for a permanent position. The consultancy claims that I have to be under their payroll to proceed further. If I were to accept it, who shall contribute to my PF, and who will provide me with the relieving letter or experience certificate? How will my performance be appraised? I assume that the consultant would be the point of contact for any concerns.
