Career Opportunities in Human Resource Management in the Hotel Industry
What are the scopes for Human Resource Management in the hotel industry? I am a hotel management graduate and an MBA in Hospitality Management. I would like to know if I can get into hotels as an HR executive. What are the career scopes?

You have chosen the right industry and have prepared yourself to handle any kind of problem that occurs at work. In the hotel industry, you will have limited exposure to all parts of HR. It can be a start, but for you to climb the ladder, you have to move on after a year's time.

With a graduation in Hotel Management and an MBA in Hospitality Management, why don't you start in Operations? As far as the hospitality business is concerned, operations, front office, guest services, housekeeping, sales, restaurant, food & beverage, and training are some of the challenging areas, right? Since the hospitality business is very much human capital-oriented, HR functions are more or less overlapped with operational profiles. So, my suggestion is to start a career in core operations and maybe after a certain number of years, try HR as a specialized career.

Okay, because currently, I am working for a consultancy as an HR recruiter. After gaining some experience, I plan to transition into the hotel industry. Even with an MBA, hotels often require experience. Coming from a hotel management background, I aspire to work in the hospitality field, specifically in the HR department.
Please suggest how I can break this ice...

I have a different opinion here. With your education, HR in the hotel industry would be the right fit as long as you select an MNC company where HR processes are given prime importance. Your knowledge in hospitality will be an added advantage to work in HR. Please go ahead and look for a branded hotel for a better future.

Hi Sir,
I have completed my M.Com and I am working as an accountant in a hotel. I have got an opportunity to work with another new hotel. Can you please suggest which post I should apply for - Accountant or HR? I am so confused because I don't know which field offers more advantages in terms of salary growth and promotions. Please help me.
