One of our graduate engineer trainee who has completed 6 months out of one year of training wants one month leave without pay to study for some exam, what is the right approach?

What is the duration of training? Is the concerned HoD agrees to this alongwith Plant head / Unit Head, Are you going to pay him gratuity for this period?

The duration of training is one year. Yes, the Head of Department (HOD) agrees, but we have no provision or policy to support the same as of now. Graduate trainees (GET) are paid a monthly stipend, including all, with no perks or benefits. Gratuity and PF start after the completion of one year of training.

Have you appointed Trainee under Apprentice Act then only you can not deduct PF otherwise it is illegal....
