While getting the passport in Chennai, I have been issued a passport in the name of SANTHOSHA instead of SANTOSHA, which means an additional letter H has been added after T. When I tried to get this corrected, passport authorities did not help me. Will it cause any problem for me when traveling abroad for a job or other purposes? If there is no problem, the visa is to be obtained under the name mentioned in the passport. Please guide.

Thanks,
Santosh

It will matter a lot in each process of a job, whether in India or outside India. You must apply for the change in your name on the passport. You can follow this link for further information: http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppO...vicesAvailable.

It's better to get it rectified. It might create some unnecessary issues during the background verification process. Don't play with the Visa Process. Visa on Arrival will not be a problem, I guess, if it's for pleasure. Better late than never.

Importance of Name Accuracy in Passports

The name in your passport is very important, particularly if you use it for identification purposes. For international travel, the name on your tickets and other travel documents must match the name in your passport, or you can be refused boarding. It is better to get this matter sorted out now, as it will definitely cause you a lot of hassles down the track if left unattended to.

Passport Name Correction: A Serious Matter

It's better to change the passport. It's a very serious matter. My brother had the same problem, and the airport officials canceled his travel plans. You should not encounter the same issue.

Your name on the qualification certificate and passport will not match. The company abroad may conclude that both are not the same person. It is important to ensure that every piece of information in the passport is accurately printed.

I remember at Dubai Airport, on my visa, my date of birth was not mentioned. The Duty Officer at the airport initially raised objections but later allowed it. Be careful and ensure that every piece of information is filled in properly without mistakes.

Dear All, In such cases, immediate action should be taken for rectification. It will lead to problems in future.Even renewal will be a problem. Regards, Col.Suresh Rathi
