Dear seniors, Kindly help me regarding Form No. 23 under the Factories Act of 1948. I am a little confused with the formula mentioned to calculate it. Please guide me on how to calculate the following:
1. Average number of workers employed daily
2. Average number of hours worked per week

Explanation of Factory Rules
Quoting here under the explanation given in the factory's rules. Please go through the same, which I hope will clear your confusion:
• The average number of workers employed daily should be calculated by dividing the aggregate number of attendance on working days (that is, man-days worked) by the number of working days in the year. In reckoning attendance, attendance by temporary as well as permanent employees should be counted, and all employees should be included, whether they are employed directly or under contractors. Attendance on separate shifts (e.g., night and day shifts) should be counted separately. Days on which the factory was closed for whatever cause, and days on which the manufacturing processes were not carried on should not be treated as working days. Partial attendance for less than half a shift on a working day should be ignored, while attendance for half a shift or more on such days should be treated as full attendance.
• The average number of hours worked per week means the total actual hours worked by all workers during the year, excluding the rest intervals but including overtime work, divided by the product of the total number of workers employed in the factory during the year and 52 (i.e., the number of weeks in a year).

Thank you for your reply. I would like to know how to calculate the total actual hours worked by all workers during the year. Additionally, if the number of employees fluctuates throughout the year, how should the total number of workers working during the year be calculated? Should we take the average of all employees working in the year?
Calculation of Gross Amount Paid
Also, regarding Form IV, how do we calculate the gross amount paid as remuneration to persons receiving less than a certain amount, i.e., 2 (a)?
Thank you.

Would you please explain to me the following: "divided by the product of the total number of workers employed in the factory during the year and 52." What is the meaning of "product of the total number of workers"? Does it mean the total number of workers? Why has the word "product" been used in this definition? It would be greatly appreciated if somebody could please explain the "calculating average number of hours worked per week" by providing an example.
