My HR manager took my resignation forcefully by threatening me with being a non-performer, which is baseless. So, I chose to resign instead of facing termination. My HR manager provided me with a letter and one month's salary in lieu as ex-gratia. What does this mean? Is there a term that allows them not to give me any amount?

As per my understanding, the term "ex gratia" is mostly used in bonus payments. If the company wants to pay out a bonus for a person who is outside the bonus limit (meaning not compliant with statutory regulations), it will be given in the form of "ex gratia."
