Dear Tina,

When you receive inputs from the CiteHR members, please share them with me/us as well. I am also developing a module on Advanced Communication Skills, especially for managerial-level staff. In addition to basic tenets, I would greatly appreciate some advanced principles of communication in the workplace.

Please share interesting concepts, models, mnemonics to remember, videos, activities, self-assessments, etc.

Thanks to everyone.

Dear Tina and Kan,

Communication is a very vast topic. What are you going to focus on in your modules? Who is the target audience? What are the training needs? If you provide this information, then I shall be able to suggest some relevant content.

Subject: Request for Laptop

As you know, I am working in production support. Currently, I am using a desktop, which limits my ability to respond to customer emails promptly when I am caught up in internal meetings. Timely responses to priority issues are crucial, but it becomes challenging when I am stuck in meetings.

Could you please approve a laptop for me? Having a laptop would greatly enhance my capability to handle all support activities effectively.

This is a draft version. Can someone review and make any necessary amendments?

Sub: Request for a Laptop
I am in Production Support and replying to customers’ emails on time is very important.
I have been working on a desktop but I am unable to respond to customer emails on time when I have to attend internal meetings.
Kindly approve of a Laptop which will be helpful for me to support all the customer related activities.

Dear Meghana,

Never ever feel inferior. The reason being communication skill is merely a skill, and you are as great as other human beings. What you can do is read newspapers like Mumbai Mirror on topics of your interest and also listen to Indian English News channels to understand pronunciation. Lastly, you can start speaking English with those you trust the most and who can help you develop.

Hope this can help you.

Only by constant exposure & practice -you could improve your language skill but beginners need proper guidance.

Hi Tina,

In our work, we have found that two very important aspects of communication are:

1) Listening to your audience - whether it is one other person or a group. Very often we are excited to present our point of view or thoughts and do not take the time to remain quiet and listen to the point of view of others (or solicit feedback from others). It is as important to hear the perspective of others as it is to present our own perspective.

2) Gratitude. People want to feel appreciated for the work they do and/or the time they give. By being genuinely grateful to someone for answering your question or helping you in some way, you make them feel good about their experience with you, which helps to improve your relationship and makes it easier to engage in future discussions.

Thanks for your time.

Hi, profitshashtra (a funny name though...;-)) I really like your last point of view. That's so true and touching. It's true that more often than not, we do forget to thank the person who may have helped us even a wee bit. I think we should develop the habit of thanking two major kinds of people:
- somebody who may have helped us in a very small way, or even indirectly.
- somebody who has helped as part of his/her KRA, or work anyways.
Don't you all agree with me?

So, guys... 'Thank you bola kya?'... 'Did you thank anyone yet?'

Kanishka
