Hello everybody,

HR policies differ from organization to organization. It is not something readily available like a dictionary in a bookshop. Much depends upon the vision, mission, and philosophy of the organization. Your HR policies should have a clear linkage to the organization's goals. There are acts and laws available on the internet which one can download directly, without asking anybody's help.

In respect to HR policies, one needs to sit with an HR consultant like me, at a senior level, and draw up policies which will be kind of a Bible cum Geetha for organizations to follow and implement.

I can be of assistance to organizations as an HR Consultant, and you can get in touch with me at sundargem@yahoo.co.in. Please remember there is nothing called 'a free lunch'!

Best wishes

Dear Friends,

It's good to share all your experiences. However, what I want to say is to think differently than others and do things in a unique manner, implementing them practically. By doing so, you will understand how useful it can be. One important point to note is that it does not work all the time.

Best regards

Hi all,

I completed my MBA in HR and have recently joined a newly established BPO company based in the US. The company has only 20 employees, and I am the first HR personnel here. This is my first role in HR, and as a fresh MBA graduate, I lack guidance from a senior colleague in the company. I am reaching out for assistance in developing HR policies for my company. Please provide me with all the necessary rules and regulations regarding leave, PF, ESI, welfare, and any other HR-related forms.

Is it advisable to work in HR for a newly established company with a limited number of employees, such as only 20?

Thank you for your support.

Hi Mahendra,

There are two viewpoints to your query. Since you have already joined a small BPO with 20 odd employees, don't look back and reconsider your decision. Life is full of challenges, and don't expect a cakewalk all the time. Use this opportunity to study, learn everything that is required for setting up a proper HR department. This way, being the first HR guy, your successors will praise you if you have done a thorough job. Use your spare time to find out from your employers how to make the HR department robust, what is required, develop a blueprint/plan for the next 5 years. Gradually start implementing the plans like establishing HR policies, procedures, systems, rewards, performance review, etc.

The second aspect is that you work for a bigger company and be part of the already existing HR team, learn things, and move on to another company to implement the things you know and have learned in the earlier organization.

For the first suggestion that I made, I would suggest that you take me as your HR Consultant who can help you in establishing a proper HR setup, including letter formats, templates, etc. You can check my profile. Please remember, nothing comes free in this world; there will always be a price tag attached to the services!

Hello,

I am also trying to set up a proper HR department in the tourism company where I am working. Regarding HR policies, I would like to have examples or guidelines to establish them.

While I may agree with Mr. Sundaram that HR policies vary among organizations, I would be most grateful if you could provide at least the basics.

Mr. Sundaram, unfortunately, I am in Mauritius and won't be able to afford your services. If you could offer some tips on how to get started, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

I have started working in the education sector, and I am required to formulate policies in HR. There is no existing system in place, so I have to create everything from scratch. Can anybody provide me with the basics of different HR policies so that I can develop policies for my organization after understanding the fundamentals?

I will be responsible for developing all the policies, such as the leave policy, HR manual, appraisal process, and creating job descriptions.

Thanks

As I mentioned in my post above, there is a ton of information on HR policies here on CiteHR already. Use the search box at the top of every page. There is also a link in my post. When you come to a thread like this, PLEASE read through the thread first and see what everyone else has said before you ask a question. The answer you require may already be there.

Hi,

Dear All,

The BPO company in which I am working has only 19 employees. As an HR professional, I have not found any challenging work or opportunities to learn all aspects of HR, such as PF, ESI, and other functions. Since the company has less than 20 employees, it is not required to provide PF, ESI, and other HR benefits.

I am a fresh MBA graduate in HR and joined this company to gain more knowledge and experience in HR. However, the opportunities I seek are not available here. I would appreciate your expert suggestions and valuable ideas. Should I consider leaving this job to find a new one or gain some experience here before applying elsewhere?

Thank you.

Mr. Mahendra,

Before joining this company, you should have thought about it! If you keep hopping jobs, you will never learn anything from any organization. Each organization will have its own pluses and minuses. Whatever is available, stay there for a year or two, learn, and then move on. When another HR person looks at your profile and observes that you have been rolling like a stone in a river, they will hesitate to take you on board.

So stay in each organization at least for 2-3 years before considering moving on to a new, more challenging assignment.

Best wishes
