Hi All,

I am working as an HR Manager in a software firm. I was a little confused between an experience certificate and a service certificate. Is there any difference between the two or not? I think they are both the same. Please suggest.

Dear,

Both are the same but have different names. When an employee serves a company, that company has to provide an experience letter or service certificate to the employee for the duration they have served, be it years, months, or days.

Service certificates usually certify the position and the duration. It is more of a contractual document.

An experience letter usually elaborates on the nature of work done. It is more of a supporting document to what you have done.

Experience and service certificates are different.

A service certificate can be given to any employee upon their request while they are working with the same company.

An experience certificate can be given to an employee after their resignation or when they are leaving.

There could be many formats of Experience/Service Certificates. Each HR Manager may come up with their format, and there is no end to it.

Can anybody tell what difference it makes if we interchange the names of the so-called Service Certificate and Experience Certificate?

There is no difference between the two, and both convey the same meaning and can be used interchangeably.

Dear All,

I would like to shed some light on the service certificate. The format is prescribed by our law, and it is mandatory on the part of the employer to issue it even if the employee is terminated. The service certificate can be considered a set, and the experience letter as a subset. We can design our own experience letter, but the service certificate is designed by the act under which the establishment is registered. Kindly check the attachment to see the service certificate format.

Dear Pranti,

An experience letter is to be given upon completion of the term of employment with the firm; hence, it should be given upon the relieving of employment or thereafter.

A service letter can be given to an employee upon special request to confirm his employment with the organization to which he is associated.

Dear Pranathi,

I would like to brief you that both are totally different letters. An experience letter is related to when a particular individual is not working in any particular organization, while a service letter is related to when a person is already working in a particular organization. He/she may require it for some special purposes like House Rent, Loan, etc.

Hi,

The service certificate is a confirmation from the employer about the continuation of employment of the employee in that particular organization. Whenever the employee needs any loan or is applying for higher education, etc., the employee will submit a written application to the employer. Based on the application, the employer or his representative will issue the service certificate.

The experience certificate is the letter given after the submission of the resignation by the employee or after completing the notice period and required formalities like handing over, no-due certificate, and exit interview formalities. Then, after relieving, an experience certificate is provided by the employer.

The service certificate is issued during the course of employment with the organization, while the experience certificate is provided after the closure of the employment, i.e., upon termination of the employee-employer relationship.

Hi,

An experience letter is given to an employee who has quit the organization. The letter would state the start date, end date, designation, compensation details, etc. A service letter is given to the employee while he is working with the organization, serving as proof that he needs to show to whomever it may concern. This letter could be for personal or official purposes like Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), Bank Loan, Dependent Visa, etc.

Friends,

Yesterday, my management assigned me the responsibility of managing the cab facility for the staff. Please help me with how to begin. How do I obtain quotes? What factors should I consider? How should I handle it from my end? Should I maintain an Excel sheet? If yes, how should I go about it, and how should I generate reports at the end of the month or quarter? Do I need to track the individuals using this service daily and collect their signatures? Are there any other aspects I need to be aware of? This will be a completely new skill for me. I would greatly appreciate guidance from seniors and the sharing of experiences in an Excel format.

Cheers! Me

Agree Mr. Nagaprasad i.e. experience letter can be better testimonial than service certificate because exp letter is given by employer without any request.

Hi, Dear,

An Experience Letter is given when the employee is supposed to complete all his duties with the organization and is relieved of responsibilities. A Service Certificate is a document required for loans, as proof, etc. The employee can request this from the HR department.

Both letters generally contain similar content.

Hope this will help you.

If an employee is serving his notice period and if he is asking for a service certificate, is it advisable to issue the same?
