Dear Seniors,
Today, I am implementing a work permit system in my facility. The following are the permits:
- Hot Work Permit
- Work at Height Permit
- Excavation Work Permit
- Confined Space Entry Permit
- Safety System Bypass Permit
- Electrical Work Permit
Along with these permits, the associated documents "Electrical Isolation" and "Compressed Air Isolation" are also introduced. Now, my question is, what is a "Cold Work Permit"? It is a metalworking company. Please advise. It's urgent.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
SSM

Dear SSM,
A cold work permit shall be used for tasks that are not classified as Hot Work but still require coverage by a permit as defined in the procedure or if the work is complex and needs the strict controls identified by the Task risk assessment for the work to be safe. Normally, a cold work permit's validity will be 3 to 7 days. Revalidation is required after each shift/12 hours. The issuing authority is normally the In-charge of the site.

Cold Work Permit
Cold Work Permit – mostly used in maintenance work that does not involve hot work. Cold work permits are issued when there is no reasonable source of ignition, and all contact with harmful substances has been eliminated or appropriate precautions have been taken. Please let me know.

Dear SSM & Bhuvanesh Kanna,
Cold Work: An activity that does not produce sufficient heat to ignite a flammable air-hydrocarbon mixture or a flammable substance. You are requested to go through the following link and download the OISD standard on Work Permits. It clearly mentions everything about Cold Work Permit with a sample. After doing this, if any doubts still persist, please bring them up for discussion.
