Dear Members,

I would like to understand the growth prospects of an HR person working in an NGO. I have received a very good offer for a Senior position in an NGO, and therefore, I would like to understand the role of HR in an NGO. I have been told that experience as an HR person working for an NGO is valuable for further job opportunities within NGOs. However, I am concerned that there are very few good NGOs in the country, so would this limit my prospects for future jobs?

Please clarify.

Thanks,
Manjali

Thank you, Manjali. HR is considered a support service function. When you have decided to join an NGO, please check the following:

- Budget allocated for HR activities
- Funding sources for the NGO
- Staff allocated to the HR unit

HR is not a key function in an NGO.
