Dear Friends,

My company has branches all over Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. I need clarification on whether the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishment Act is applicable to all these branches, or if maintaining records and registers at the Chennai corporate office would be sufficient.

Regards,
Michael

Dear Michael,

Every branch of your company should maintain registers individually. Interestingly, PT is also payable at these locations according to the respective slabs.

Dear Michael,

It is mandatory to register all your branches under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, and you have to maintain certain statutory records in accordance with the act.

Moreover, you have to register professional tax for all branches separately since they come under the jurisdiction of different corporations. If you need any clarification regarding this, please email me at jason_001bourne@rediffmail.com.

Since I am a consultant in these statutory matters, you can seek any help from me.

Regards,
Soundar.

Dear Friends,

Can you clarify the applicability/coverage of the Shop & Establishment Act concerning the number of manpower employed on a premises?

For example, the Factory Act states that 20 employees and above are required to be employed.

Thanks & Regards,
Siva
