Since you are from an HR background, pursuing a relevant degree in MPhil would add merit to your profile. I suggest exploring university websites to find a suitable program. However, my question is, why not pursue a Ph.D. directly?

Dear NANDA,

It would be better if you could have a check on your interests and preferences rather than asking for an idea. Since you have specialized in Management, it might be more beneficial for you to consider something in commerce or a field related to your past specialization.

Thank you.

Hi People,

Even I am in the same dilemma. I have completed an MBA in HR through Distance at Madurai Kamaraj University with 3 years of experience in the role of a Generalist. I am currently staying in Mumbai. Please, this solution will decide my line of study. How can I pursue a Ph.D. in the same area? Also, please provide more information since my attempts to find information have failed for around 1 year.

I am eagerly waiting for a reply!

Thanks,

Hi, I am also in the same profile, completed my MBA (HR), and currently pursuing my M.Phil (Mgmt) at PRIST University (IGNOU). After several searches, I found that they only offer M.Phil in Management (HR), which is a 1-year program.

As per my knowledge, you cannot pursue an M.Phil through distance education as the UGC stopped this since last year. However, you can opt for a Ph.D. program. I am aware of one university named Manav Bharti University based in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The university's information center can be reached at +91-9818689690, and it is located in Gurgaon.

Dear Nanda,

You can check with ISBM (Indian School of Business Management & Administration). They have branches in Chennai or Hyderabad. Visit www.isbm.com for more information. This might be helpful to you.

I would like to share my views about higher education and distance learning:

• Anybody who wants to pursue higher education should have a clear conscience as to whether he/she wants to gain education and knowledge or only desires to add one more degree after his/her name.

• One should also clarify why he/she is seeking a degree. Is it for professional growth, promotions, or a genuine interest in research?

• I feel that an MPhil or PhD may not be very beneficial for growth and promotions in the industry. Generally, in the industry, growth largely depends on the performance and potential of individuals, and the degree is secondary.

• In the case of being in the teaching profession, a PhD is essential for further growth, and pursuing a PhD through distance learning may not be very helpful in that scenario.

• Furthermore, in industries where degrees hold significance, it is crucial to consider who has conferred the degree, i.e., the name and reputation of the university and institution.

• Personally, I am against obtaining degrees through distance education, especially in higher education and research. Distance education should primarily be an avenue for those who, for specific reasons, could not attend a regular college but have practical working experience. Only graduation degrees in certain disciplines should be offered through distance education. Post-graduation, obviously, should not be offered through distance learning.

• I believe distance learning actually lowers the quality of education, and therefore, distance education should never be regarded on par with regular education.

• There has been a recent directive from the UGC or the Education Ministry that rightly prohibits the granting of PhDs through distance education. Fellow citehr members may provide more information on this.

Thanks & Regards

Dear all,

A Ph.D. is a process of conducting an in-depth analysis of a particular topic of interest.

Step 1: Please list down the areas where you are proficient and prioritize them.

Step 2: Identify the Guide. The Guide plays a more important role than the University. I would recommend Madurai Kamaraj University/Madras University, which are very conducive for proceeding. Some guides may not be competent enough to mentor scholars, so please verify with previous students who have completed their studies.

Step 3: Please write synopses for at least three prioritized topics.

Step 4: After receiving approval from the Guide, proceed to register yourself at the University.

For any further clarification, please email me.

Hema
