Dear All,

As per the Factory Act of 1948, drinking water testing is required by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). I have a certificate from a private agency, 21st Century (this agency is approved by the Punjab Pollution Control Board). I am unsure whether this certificate is valid as per the act or not. Please provide a suitable reply for the same.

Thank you.

Dear Mr. Teotiamanoj Kumar,

Hi, this is Farooqui Mohammed Safir, working in the environmental division of a construction company. As per my suggestion, if the agency is approved by the Pollution Control Board and the results are within the permissible limits of BIS or WHO guidelines for drinking water, then it is valid.

Dear Farooqui,

Thank you for your reply. However, my question is, "As per the Factory Act, 1948," should we be testing the water by the CMO? We have not done so by the CMO; instead, we have used private agencies. Is this acceptable or not?

Thank you.
