He made sure nobody was in the car, rolled all the windows up, and locked all of the sedan's doors. He went off, but when he came back, his wife was dead, and there was a stranger in the car. a) The engine would have seized.
b) There was no gas or petrol.
c) There was some repair needed in the car parts, etc.
He went to the gas station to get some help from the mechanic there. After he came back, the car was in good condition. This doesn't mean that the issue has been sorted out; it means that the car was as it was when he had left it, and no one had caused any physical damage to the car to get into it.
