Hello Everyone!

Summer is here, and health is one thing that is often left unnoticed. We should take care of ourselves at this time. A little effort will pay off. Please drink lots of water (avoid carbonated drinks – we tend to drink them, but please avoid). Drink tender coconut; it's really good, have at least one every day. Take frequent baths (not kidding). Since it's humid, dust sticks to us easily. So, we have to be careful about our skin and the potential threats. Wear cotton clothes, avoid nylon and synthetic materials.

While traveling, wear sunglasses and also sunscreen lotion. If on a two-wheeler, wear a scarf (especially women) and hand gloves. Avoid foods like chicken and others that produce a lot of heat in the body. Have lots of lemon juice, cucumber salad, and other cooling foods.

Everyone, please suggest what you feel is good at this point. This information can be passed on to employees.

Yes, please avoid all sorts of non-veg, including eggs!! Also, try to avoid oily and spicy foods. If possible, drink juice and eat some watermelon instead of bringing plain water from home. Try lime water, which will prevent dehydration in your body.

Please avoid roaming out in the sunshine; we used to call it "Looo" in Hindi (Hot wind), which is very dangerous for everyone. So, cover your face (for all boys and girls) and enjoy this summer safely.

Good going, Abhi, Chitra, and Aneesh :-)

Yes, watermelon, glucose, all that is really good. I guess corporates must also provide employees with better working conditions. Need not go hi-fi though, but some watermelon, or at least lemon juice, should help.

From my personal experience, I see my level of concentration decreasing. I easily get irritated and am not able to focus on one task for a long time.

It's so humid, and to get something like tender coconut, we have to go outside. Even our helper is dead tired. I feel bad to force her to get it as it's scorching hot in the mornings.

Good post ASHA. :icon13:

I would suggest sweet lime juice; it's so cool. Additionally, curd and yogurt will also help. If having a meal, I would suggest curd rice. Avoid mangoes, spicy food, and chat items that produce heat in the body. Rose water will really help with all.

Great Chira... I have never heard before that onion is good during summer - I must try that. Maybe a mixture of onion and cucumber salad must help.

And everyone - I just said it was burning hot...and after a couple of hours, it was pouring here heavily in Coimbatore, TN. This climate can be very dangerous...

If in case anyone is going through a bad throat or feels slight irritation in the throat, try this. Add a pinch of turmeric powder and some sugar in lukewarm milk and drink it before going to sleep at night. This will help in soothing your throat and clearing any possible infection. I have tried it.

Got this info online:

[Iced tea](Iced tea) is a classic summertime drink. Lemonade is also very cooling. Avoid extra-sugary soft drinks. The sugar and caffeine will just make you thirstier and fill you with empty calories.

Still sweating? Try some [tiger balm](tiger balm)! This herbal, mentholyptus-based salve is great for sore muscles, but it also provides a cooling sensation to your skin. Apply a small amount to your skin before slathering it on. Sensitive skin may find this strong. So please test before using (yes..test on your friend ;-) kidding!)

- Shade makes a difference! If you need to be in the sun for a long time, wear a visor or light sun hat.
- Light shoes are necessary for ultimate cooling. Avoid boots and high-tops. If your feet are cool, so are you!
- A cool dip in the pool is a great way to cool off and great exercise!
- ALWAYS wear sunscreen when you are going to be exposed to the sun's rays. Even a short time in the sun can cause sunburns.
- Overcast days don't always mean you can't burn. Wear that sunscreen!
- If you are feeling faint, nauseous, weak, or disoriented, seek medical help immediately. Hyperthermia and heat stroke are serious and can lead to illness and even death.

Bathing twice or thrice a day is good. But bathing with rose water is best. Just mix one ounce of rose water with bathing water. It will result in freshness and cool throughout the day... You will feel the difference.

Hello everybody!

Thanks, Asha, for starting a good thread! Great suggestions by all others.

I would like to add "buttermilk" to the list. Take it every day after lunch; it surely will bring down the heat in the body. Also, "chilled lassi" is a nice option.

Cheers! Madhura

Take a lot of fruits. This is the season of mangoes and watermelon. Have buttermilk daily in the afternoon, which is better than curds. Don't go for too cold drinking water as it will reduce the quantity of water intake. Take a cold water bath to reduce heat from the body.
