Hi All,

Happy New Year!

I would like to introduce myself.

I moved to Dubai in January 2008 and have been working in HR since. Like others, I too am trying to understand the mysteries of the UAE labor laws and would be grateful if you could help me or direct me to a good source.

I am seeking sound information on severances, as, like many other companies, we are conducting mass redundancies. I need assistance on how best to handle final settlements and visa cancellations.

I have noticed that many employees are not coming to the offices to hand in their passports for visa cancellation. I am wondering if there is an easy way to do this without the passport, especially in cases where people have already left the country.

I am facing a situation where an employee was terminated under article 120 part c, but the ministry was not notified. He has not received his final settlement from us and has now reported us to the ministry. Can you help me understand a good way forward?

By the way, I would love to meet up with anyone working in HR in the UAE. It would be great to connect with others in the same field.

Thanks,

Samina

Hello Samina,

Thank you for writing in the forum. Almost all your queries are of regulations and legal in nature. Have you contacted the Ministry of Labour (MOL)? The UAE has very supportive staff in the MOL, and I am sure they will handle all your queries. If you haven't, then send an email to sajid.rasheed@gmail.com, and I will email you the contact numbers.

Glad to know that you keep an interest in meeting people from HR in the UAE. If you can see the above posts, you will have an idea of a small group of professionals who meet on a regular basis, and there are contact details as well. You can write to them, and you will be included in the group as well.

Cheers,
Sajid Rasheed
