I have recently joined in one Traditional manufacturing organisation. In this orgn, there is no HR & Admn Policies. I have been asked to prepare HR policies, Admn Policies, ISO documentation, KRAs, giving presendation on Training session, and also all HR letters, Admn activities like AMC, Booking and ALL GENERAL INFORMATION as and when required for TOP 6 TOP EXECUTIVES.
I am ready to perform all the function. However, The company is not giving the FACILITY OF INTERNET. I am sure, without the help of Internet, i become handicapped and my performance will affect severely. Wihout the use of INTERNET, how can we function in this knowledge era. I tried my best to convience but without any positive outcome.
Therefore, I am planning to quit.
Please advise.
Kind Regards

Well Ravi whats the harm in that , probably one needs to learn new things and if he can ellicit help from internet, and this comment of yours depicts me that you have been practicing the same.
For the Solution part, you would need to talk to the top managment, although i have reasons to believe that you have already spoken to them , but you will need to work out a cost benifit analysis of how and to what extent does it benifit.
Probably work it out that if you workout against a cosultant, and show them. I believe that if the point put they would clear this Rs.1000/ month expenditure

I think you are right & trust you have tried to introduce internet in that organization. All top rankers not always right specially in technical matters.

I also aggree the same. no one is handicaped without internet but its realy very necessary in todays competitions strength. if they asks something and you have this facility you can solve that problem or somthing else more easily and quickly. policies are not a game to play. it plays a toughest role in the organisation and one have to made it very care fully a non experiance person can not made the whole policy. but yes he/she can take of diffrent points to be include in that, ask to seniors. and those all.
i completely disagree with mr. Ravi. if all are chating here than y u r using the same. you are also using internet for sharing our views and guidance.....

hi all
ya even i agree that internet is necessary, because in this world you have to be in contact with outside world and without internet it is not possible, n even take example of my self m studying but if one day internet is not able to connect i feel as insecured.
so finally i disagree with Mr.Ravi tat we are addicted to net.
and Mr santosh i feel you should talk to the top management and ask for the faccility, if you give genuine reasons they may agree .
with best regards

why those who told that internet is necessary, cant u use ur mind and prepare the policies rather than searching on citehr, or some other cite and then just copy pasting it. Prepare your own policy and use your imagination, and creativity. Else you will just be dependant on internet, like most people on citehr are, dependant on citehr and not using this cite as source of active discussion, many few are here who beleive in contributing rather than just sucking , leeching data, :-D

Never heard such absolute rubbish in my entire life! The company will obviously be better off without you.

Dear Mr Ravi
You are of course right in saying that we should our own wisdom in structuring the policies to suit the needs of the company where we are working, but at the time there is nothing wrong in gathering information and aligning with the company's policies.

Hi Suresh,

First and foremost, leaving a company just because they are not providing internet is very childish. You are not taken onboard to do ur job using internet. Internet was not criteria for you to join the company or part of ur JD. So I dont see any rationality for considering it as a criteria for your resignation.

Having said that, I also agree that Internet would assist you in many ways. Irrespective of what a few have said about it being unneccessary and waste of time etc, it does help you a lot in gaining knowledge if you know how to use it correctly.

And Mr.Ravi, there is nothing wrong in asking for help from other HR professionals or adapting policies from other companies. May be you have not heard the phrase "Why re-invent the wheel?". Atleast basic policies' ideas can be taken from other HR pros and can be worded to suit to your company.

Discuss with your superior that access to internet would help you draft the 'best in industry' policies and also to implement the best in class practices which would help the company grow into a better workplace.

And if your superior doesnt agree to it then take an internet connection on your own and ask for reimbursement. If they dont agree to even that then bear the cost and do your job. Internet connections are pretty cheap these days. I am sure you can easily afford it with your salary.

But please stop blaming the company for not providing u internet. It is not a mandatory tool that if not provided you cannot do your job at all. Its just a tool to assist you better. Thats all.

Does ur company provide you with designer clothes to come to the office daily?
