Hi Jeevarathnam,
Thank you for your reply, but some of the companies will be working on October 2nd and shall give off on any other day. So where is the compulsion? Can it be considered?

Ashwini

Hi Ashwini. I do agree with your point. As many of BPO will be working on all national holidays. For that we should take prior permission from labour department

Dear Friends,
I respect the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, But there are many freedom fighter like Mahatma Gandhi, Why they were not respected by declaring the national holiday on their birth anniversary. If it will be so then one might say it will loss of productive days, then again I wish state that Mahatma Gandhi was also promoter for productivity . So his birth anniversary shall also be respected by doing Productive work in our organisation instead of by keeping the units closed .

Dear Ashwini,
Some days are declared as compulsory holiday by concerned state government applicable to all companies or firms in that state. It is a public document and state government publishes it one month advance generally in December .
(1) If you want to keep any of the day from holiday list, as working day , take prior permission from concerned authority . I am not sure as who is that competent authority but you can get this information somewhere in citehr site.It is either factory inspector or labour inspector.
(2) The staff who are asked to work on those "holidays" have to be compensated , either as an additional leave on some other day or salary of one day.
(3) Keep the documents regarding prior permission and compensation given to staff who reported for duty on that date for subsequent verification by competent authority.

Dear Aswini,
I agree in toto the opinion tendered by Mr. Pranay, in addition to Oct 02nd, Aug 15th and also Jan 26th are public holidays. As rightly said by the Mr Pranay, each entity has to take prior permission from the respective State Authorities for working on the said dates.
