hr is about selecting rewarding and developing people to achieve goals
Yes, certainly.
But I would like to say that HR is also about selecting the right people, judging which type of people are suitable where, why, etc.
HR is also about creating discipline in the right fashion without hurting the staff/without tampering the organisational image.
HR is also about guidance, even upto the TOP people, TOP mgmt.
Basically, it's analysing and getting a correct judgment about an individual's psychology, not only jugement, but studying the same and acting accordingly. That's vimp.
What else friends, all of you are much more experienced and knowledgeable.
You all share.
Thanks.

In my view HR is all about Recruiting, Training, Re-Training and retaining the employees to achieve organizational goals.
When I say
Recruiting: Right man for the right job
Training: Training fresher based on organizational requirements
Re-training: Training the employees to face future challenges or changes
Retaining: To do employee counselling to hold them back.

"The first duty of a university is to teach wisdom, not trade; character, not technician." I didnt say, Winston Churchill did.

"Universities are turning out highly skilled barbarians because we don’t provide a framework of values to young people, who more and more are searching for it". Steven Muller, President of Johns Hopkins University said in one of his speach.

Human resources is a term used to refer to how people are managed by organizations. H R field has moved from a traditionally administrative function TO A STRATEGIC ONE that recognizes the link between talented and engaged people and organizational success. The field draws upon concepts developed in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and system theory.

H R Management's objective is to maximize the return on investment from the organization's human capital and minimize financial risk. It is the responsibility of HR Managers (yes, it is your responsibility!) in a corporate context to conduct these activities in an effective, legal, fair, and consistent manner.
