Dear All,
For each individual, motivation factors may have different attraction at different levels.
These may be
Monetary
Recognition
Espirit-de-Corps
The list can be expanded.
For some it is the sheer joy of doing what they like best .For others-like ,a renowned Army Gen when asked as to why does he work so hard, replied "If I do not work hard, what will my juniors say?"
One has to find his own motivational factor.Am sure you will find yours.
Hope it makes sense.

Hi Sanjeev,
Basically its a management theory that basics are same for all and every professional goes through the following:
1. Monetary (Position doesn't matter).
2. Recognition/Position (Money doesn't matter).
3. Monetary & Recognition/Position.
The above 3 are phases that one goes through. It is in different chronological order for different people. You analyse where you are. Just my opinion.

7. Proper performance evaluation and pay for performance

1. Be generous with praise. Everyone wants it and it’s one of the easiest things to give.
2.. Removing the project lead or supervisor and empowering your staff to work together as a team
3.Make your ideas theirs. I’d like you to do it this way” turns into “Do you think it’s a good idea if we do it this way?”
4.Was that the best way to approach the problem? Why not? Have any ideas on what you could have done differently?
5.Highlight your top performers’ strengths and let them know that because of their excellence
6.Give recognition and small rewards.
7.Throw company parties. Doing things as a group can go a long way. Have a company picnic. Organize birthday parties. Hold a happy hour. Don’t just wait until the holidays to do a company activity; organize events throughout the year to remind your staff that you’re all in it together
this can motivate any employee of the organisation

Dear All,
But I feel although performance is good & even if Employee gets incentive for the same.
Bosses should also pat the back of employees, coz even if they get recognition thru incentives & if their bosses feel that they are not performing well..just coz they feel that some other team member should get the recognition (although the that employee is not eligible as per the norms)....Then even that incentive turns into dissatisfaction....

Having read so many responses, I recognized one thing that all these answers are from the perspective of an employee and none from the point of few of business, market or profit. Anything that an employee does should be marketable and should add to the revenue and profit of the organization. Otherwise every efforts and every amount of hard-work is wastage of time and resources.
Coming to the motivation part, my believe is that no motivation is better than SELF-MOTIVATION. When we get something, we complain about things that we don’t get. The more we get, the more we want. Things that motivate a person and keep him motivated for his entire life are: Purpose of life, Dreams to Chase, Search of Excellence and Betterment of Performance. You are not here to satisfy the expectations of someone or measure up to someone’s criteria but your own.

Hi Sanjeev,

it's a good question to do research activity, being a HR professional points to be considered are:

1) its the responsibility of every employee to take initiative in all the aspects.

2) manager should closely monitor the perfomance of all the employees, current project which they are holding, how the work is done, it's a individual or team one, how many are satisfied with that, wat are their perspectives or views for this, how many are curiously taking up, anybody not showing interest or poorly performing we have to have discussion with them and try to find them whether they are genuine or because of their irresponsible attitude or something else. they have to go deep into that.

I really appreciate that manager should have good communication relations with their employees and have to put their best effort to do employee survey, it really helps out.

Secondly, coming to citehr I personally find it more helpful part in terms of learning, sharing your Ideas, getting good suggestions, good opportunity to interact with different field people, scope to wide-spread your knowledge and thoughts.

my motivation comes from knowing that i have made life easier / better for even one person. i am in the service industry and HR here goes beyond specific interactions. There is a lot of interaction with admin to help them understand impact on staff and the more i am able to facilitate both managerial level and employee level with their work, the more motivated i get. :-)
