Dear Amee,
I agree with nirmal, amit, vishal & ulka. These things are actully common an being an HR ur role is to implement these polices n make the employees understand these policies & procedures. Ya it takes time to make them understand and convince them, but at the end u'll feel satisfied once u do it......that'll be ur success as a real HR.

I was in the same position, facing the very same problems at my last job where I served for almost two and a half years. I agree its really very frustrating if you are working for the people and they donot accept you for executing an administration at an age half than theirs.
What I would suggest you is to always bring your boss into confidence first. Next you should conduct meetings in various departments and explain your objectives. You can ask the staff members that their positive and useful feedback on the subject of any organizational policy will always be welcomed. You should not fight about the existance of your department rather you should show your empathy towards them and deal them. Believe me you will learn alot this way about various behaviors, politics & people dealing. All the Best

Hi amee,
This may be there that they would not following any new rule introduced by you, may be they dont understand the need of this as previously the things were moving and according to them it should be remain the same.
But by doing such activities which will create there interest to follow the new things; you can divert there mind and slowly can introduce the other HR policies which would be slowly acceptable.
Change brings the Resistance
So the change should be slowly.

Hey Amee...
I agree to AMit,vishal,ulka.....I think its the best time to test your potential and abilities as an HR. Just stay in there and see that when you are strict abt the employees following the policies, make sure you also consider the mgmt and employees into it!!
All the best dear! :)

Dear Amee,
HR - M (Management) is an art, where we need to learn the quality of managing-men-tactfully...! Please do not get demotivated. This is a common issue, because people do not welcome change in a healthy way..! Speak to your boss and ask him to counsel the employees that the new policies are implemented for their benefits. I am sure it will work..

I have come across many companies are like this. though the policies are there, they dont want to follow the same. based on the bosses only they will run the organisations.

Dear Amee,
It is very embarssing, Dont give up, At first take your MD into your confidence, and play some dirty games among your staff, if this technique is not good according to you, since your staffs are very small take them to a picnic and make them get together.
Arrange some external faculties with games on team building, interpersonal relation etc, it play a vital role and ask faculty talk about HR practices in other companies with similar industries.
I think this will help you a lot. If people are not changed then my advise is to recruit some people and change them one by one with your MD concurrence.

this is somedwhere I feel HR job is very challenging. think if we have to do typical activies in HR then wats the difference in HR and admin. and admin can do those activities vrey well.

kindly keep the four "C" of hr in mind.

1. C - Competent - HR should be competent enough to take a right decision and convince people towards its benefits.

2. Caring for others - dont forget that employees are our costumers, we have to serve them in a better way, so they can put in their best efforts, and they dont get worried for other things except their work at place.

3. Courageous - we should be courageous, if policies are laid down, we have to implement them with full force. sometime we have to set examples in such a way that others would never try that in future. it can pnly be done with the help of management. so first we should convince mgmt for that.

here dont forget that "policies should not be too rigid to overrite and too flexible to create a mess".

rules are laid down to handle the situations by an large but we cannot treat every man in the same way, so rules can be overrite.

4. Curious: HR sould be curious to know new things and the ways to improve work situations. though there are standard policies to work in particular segmant, but putting something new to encourage employees is not bad until unless it harms the business.

hope it will help you.............

Dear Seniors,

I am also facing the similar issue.

I am working in a very small company having staff of 25 people here out of which 80% staff are very old and working since almost 5 to 10 years in this organisation and most of them are gujrati. Most of the relatives & Friends andd very close to directors even a small discussion becomes an issue here and then my chair is in danger. Its a broking house

There was no HR earlier and system is really spolied. I have joined here in September and made Policies procudures, Attendance and time management system etc.

As these employees have never followed any rule and are aware that out MD will not throw them out in any case, they are all harresing me in different means.

This is not affecting much to me and this is really making thing difficult.

As both my Directors are just opposite father is good in planning things and son is juist good in executing .. But both dont agree to one dissision made.

What shall I do in such case and how to handle them ????

Awaiting response.

Dear amee,
You should first measure abilities/capabilities & duties/responsibilities of each and every employee with his current position, as the policies etc made by HR always be according positions.
If you treat Finance/sales/administration/supervisors persons in the same manner it doesn't make sense, because they all have their duties and responsibilities.
you make sure that your policies does not harm any person.
