Thru taxation only, the govt can meet the infrastructure expenses. No need to compare the prices of other countries where they will have different source of revenue to run the Govt. Our taxation is less than other developed countries.

Yes it is true that the petrol prices in our country are more when compared to other countries.
But the most important thing is our government is collecting taxes for public welfare only.
The petrol prices in other countries are less. But they have their pros and cons.

Look at the actual picture with the standard of living and currency of respective country not at the conversion rate to Rupees.

Petrol price in

1 US CENT = 0.47 Paise

Pakistan Rs. 26 (Pak Rs 67.95 a liter)

Bangladesh Rs. 22 (Bangladesh taka 87 a litre)

Cuba Rs.19 (126.9 US cents/litre=Rs 59.64)

Nepal Rs. 34 (Nepali Rs 85 per Litre)

Burma Rs. 30 (96.33 US cents/litre=Rs 45.27)

Afganisthan Rs. 36 (78.45 US cents/litre=Rs 36.87)

Qutar Rs. 30 (23.07 US cents/litre=Rs 10.84)

Note: Afghanistan Prices are controlled by US & Qatar is a Gulf Oil Based Country (Manufacturer). India has to import most its Oil & Petroleum Products and its based on Global Oil Prices. Our Government bears a part of cost by providing reimbursement & subsidy to Oil Companies in various forms. Although I agree that It can be done in a better way but its the BEST that the Govt can do under present circumstances whereas all previous Govt's have failed miserable to control check on Critical Imports.

Whatever the cost might be... but we are living in a safer country. Pakistan and other conutries mentioned above are infested with terrorism compared to our country. There is gross human right violation in Afganistan, Political insatiability in Nepal, Bangladesh infested by fundamentalists, Pakistan a failed state where an an average 20 to 30 people are killed daily........ We Indians are lot better than these countries. Enjoy living in India with lot of freedom.... :=) fun and selfrespect... I am proud to be an indian what ever comes... And we HR people shouldnt compare ourself with others...One living in India cannot expect himself to get killed in bomb blast or suicide attack when he goes to put petrol for his bike..... Happy????

Dear shreya mishra
Could you work out the taxes in your calculation :
BASIC COST PER 1 LITRE 16.50
Centre tax 11.80%
Excise duty 9.75%
Vate ces 4%
State tax 8 %
Total Rs. 50.05
I am not able to arrive at the total of Rs. 50.05; even if one adds the taxes at every stage.
May be my arithmetic is nothing to write home about.
Can you work it out for us, so as to arrive at the total of Rs. 50.05 ??
Warm regards.

Dear Friends,
Govt. have to think that if prices of petrol and diesel are raised, it effect on the prices of all common goods viz. as vegetables, fruits, rashion, medicines etc. So, a common man who is not using any vehicle consuming pertrol have to pay the penality for increased prices of petrol/diesel.
THINK ABOUT IT.

The calculation as per the rates given are as follows :
Basic Cost Rs.16.50
Centre Tax @ 11.80% Rs. 1.95
Excise @ 9.75 % Rs. 1.80
VAT @ 4 % Rs. 0.81
State Tax @ 8 % Rs. 1.69
---------
Total Rs.22.75
---------
In fact the tax rates have to be higher in order to arrive at the present market rate of Rs.56/-. Can any one give the exact rates and calculations.
The citizens are being fooled to believe that there is heavy subsidy on petroleum products.
Thank you for taking up the issue.
