Hi Richa

A person has experience in recruitments, he/she may fit into role of Placement officer of education institute, however the roles and responsibility increases with this role as compared to recruiter in the firm, however the primary focus remains the same, link between employer and candidate.

In placement officer case, the scope of candidate skill sets is limited to number of students available in the institute, in this case, a placement officer has to sell the skills of students to employers.

A placement officer also needs to brief students on job market realities, opportunities in the market, etc

you can search on this site or google for job description of placement officer, you will get a good idea of what is the role like.

As a placement officer, he / she can orient students with interview techniques, soft skills, art of negotiation, CV writing etc.

placement officer shall remain updated with student's profile, previous work experience, academic achievements, and other special attriubtes which can match with job requirements.

Seek employers and bring them to campus for hiring. Establish relationship with HRs from the corporate and promote students for placements as appropriate.

This job requires, lot of networking with employers and mentoring of students for best fit.

One more question: If one applies to an MCA / MBA institute for a placement officer’s position... Is it necessary to be graduate in the same stream????

Not necessary, but the employer may keep that as a requirement.
However I feel, any graduate with smart personality, relevant experience in recruitment, very good commmunication, networking, selling, negotiating, coordinating skills backed by relevant experience to prove this skills can be a good fit.
As you mentioned about MCA / MBA institute, any placement coordinator (PC) / recruiter has to understand the demand and supply dynamics of job opportunity, so recruiter or PC shall understand the JDs and skills sets available with candidates.
Are you working as Placement officer with any MCA / MBA institute ?
Are you offered from MCA / MBA institute ?
Are you planning to apply for such jobs ?
What is your qualificationa and experience ?
If you may wish to answer this, seniors and readers can give better suggestions !

Hi,
I am presently working as a Placement Officer for Computer Education Institute. As I am new to this area, I would like to get insight about the placement roles and responsibilities.
- How should I find a prospective employer?
- What are the things I should consider in negotiating a placement deal?
In addition, I have the responsibility to train the students in the institute regarding to soft skills and personality development.
Please advice about the HR negotiation process.
