Passion is for sure ur own level of competency,,,nd dere may or may not b a suitable method to measure d same,,,,,,,,,,thou ,,,one should never neglect d fact dat,,,watever we mite b ,,,in any field of expertise,,v need to learn learn and learn,,,,,,,,,,,,coz,,,,dere cnt b any defined standard for ur passion...
Though, the best way to measure is,,,to measure ur own level of learnin,,,
compete ur own performence frm tym to tym,,,

Lets c this way:

I have a huge passion for music
I have a huge passion for psychology

What I have done for music:

I have nt attended classes - I sing the way I love - n I am happy abt it
After growing up I learnt I could spend some time and learn a musical instrument.
Just started recently - only one person loves listening to it (the person who has a huge reason behind it to like it :icon4:)
SO - MUSIC is something I opt to listen while traveling... sleeping... eating... (most of the time)

Now Psychology:

hmmm I wanted to pursue a career in Psychology - trust me: Criminal Psychology
I landed as an Hr :-D
I still love the subject - I read a lot abt it. I "make sure" I read abt it.

Now the question - is passion a competency? can it be measured
I would say passion is the love towards the field.

If I loved music and all of a sudden started listening to bad voices..bad rythms with jus no goodness in it, I would have slowly started hating it

If Psychology - came up with equations and chemical formulaes - I would have not read a single page after learning this.

Meaning is simple - as long as u know, that the person whom u hired has the passion (love) to work continues to be so - its good.
Pls don confuse with motives / satisfaction of basic needs to passion.
A person would see the following b4 chosing a job:

The motive behind the need for job:

Monetary
Self Esteem

Passion: achieve the "needs" with an interest and nt by force.

Now the company has to make sure - u motivate in:

Monetary - salary hikes, incentives, rewards.. etc etc
Self Esteem: Promotion, recognition....

Passion: :-D hmmmm, dont make the person hate the subject. So during performance appraisal and review -set and review those targets that are achievable and provide ur constructive feedback.

Many ppl have here said that passion disappears. It does nt disappear - company sometime neglect that part and force the person to stop loving it and start acting!
