Dear Priyanka,
I believe u shuld start with the Organizational Structure. ANalyse the reporting pattern. Describe the responsiblities of each person clearly.
After this - find out their existing salary structure (if they have any)
If they dont, please find in download search the basic format of salary structure (in citeHR itself) That will give u a clear idea.
I would suggest you to find the industry standards for salary range. And from this design a fitment that can be considered for approval from the Management.

Dear Priyanka,

It seems from your post that you are in a tricky situation. Since you are already three months in the company, by now you must be well aware of the organizational structure. Firstly you should have all the information regarding each and every employee ( like DOJ, designation, promotion, transfer last increment given, etc)working in the organization along with their respective departments. Next is to find out the salary and wages of each and every employee along with their grades and scales(if any). Now since you are not a compensation & benefit management specialist, the best and easiest possible way to build a salary structure is to compare the salary structure of similar industries and build one of your own . Ofcourse in this case also you have to atleast know the basic things of building a salary structure (like building grades & scales, increment time span & amounts, promotion fitments, Evaluation Bar etc). Finally you can create a wage matrix of your own as per the requirements of your company and get it validated by the top management.

Hi Priyanka,

Ash and others are correct! It is a critical task!!! But not difficult!!!

Please note that you should do the following:
  • Study the history of the organization first. There cant be a worst HR than the one who does not know about his / her company. Please ensure that this is done in the very first step!!!
  • Desgin the Org Chart. Create an excel file which shows your organizational hierarchy! In case yours is a big company, then create it for the departments.
  • Try and formalize the job descriptions, salary structures and policies
  • Please ensure that you have leave, payroll, recruitment, disciplince policies to start with as they are most essential
  • Write down processes for recruitments, payroll and seperation and jot down the consultants for the same
  • Formalize the consultant agreements and have them standardized (since yours is an engineering company so I am assuming that there must be a lot of recruitments)
  • Once all this is done, then you are through with the primary set up and ready for the secondary one!!!
Contact us again for the secondary setup once through with the primary one!!!

Best of luck!!!

Thanks

Dear Priyanka,
As you are getting to set up HR practices with this organisation,
You should first of all know Business process. What business organisation is doing? What are the process.?
Then move to Job description of all positions. Like that way Try to implement all the theoretical aspects of HRM.

Amol
