really a good topic to think about. In our company we do sent out these type of letters with the following verbage
Dear xyz
In ref. to your application for the position of ........... i regret to inform you that the manager has rejected your candidature. However, i would like to keep your name in my roll dex for any probable opening that may come through in near future
Thanks for your patience and interest in working with us.
All the best and have a great time ahead
