One of the employee in the working hours collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted. He was some heart problem and treatment was done. He was attending to the duty. Now he claims for reimbursement of medical expenses and special leave . I need a clarification if any employee become sick on duty, employer has to bare the medical expenses or not. the industry is not covered under ESI and we don't have medical insurance.

If you are not covered under ESI and Medical Insurance, you are very much governed by Workmen's compensation Act. Both legally, and The Management's responsibility on humanitarian consideration towards your employees as assets of the management' you are liable to take care of his first aid expenses and leave.
