There is a growing technology trend in workplaces both large and small called 'Bring Your Own Device', sometimes abbreviated as BYOD. Bring Your Own Device simply means that organizational IT departments are allowing individual employees to use their personal or preferred 'devices', (smartphones, tablets, laptops), to access the corporate systems and tools they need to accomplish their work.

Greetings,
This had first rolled with the organization gifting Ipods and laptops as reward. The seed to promote personally owned gadget started right then. VPN connectivity was a step towards this integration in the other direction. It effectively registered a greater degree of reliance towards the usage of the gadget for official work.
Initially every organization with inclination, to the data security, remained blasé towards it. As the cost increased, it was seen as a better solution than paying the depreciation. It worked wonders as shared in the article with the sectors that required, a higher degree of personalization with the gadgets.
I still doubt, if this will work in Banks or other data sensitive sectors.

Yeah, Hope it will be economical and cost effective in indirect as well as asset cost.
But in concern with the sensitive sectors like defence, Banks, Insurance and where the security and finance involvement held more, it is not possible to instruct and encourage the usage of employees own gadgets, as it will lead to sabotage and the greedy employees may get abetted by the owned gadgets for misappropriation.
Where there is no involvement of finance and defence/security thread there the employees can use their gadgets. There also, the management has to give their rules and regulations for using the self owned employees gadgets.
Then only the misappropriation of power can be eradicated.

Dear All,
As rightly said by (Cite Contribution), the advent of VPN have revolutionized the IT Systems in the corporate world, made the loop more closer and with better control mechanisms.
Sectors with higher data sensitivity have evolved multi layer data accessibility and security / backup systems to adapt to the challenges of "BYOD".
I would request our members to brainstorm on the last words in the article by the author - "I wonder if the next trend might be BYOHRT, Bring your own HR Technology? What might that look like?"
How will the corporate world take this ... in what form ?
