Hello everyone,

We are planning to organize a "Sports Day" in our organization. I thought of dividing the whole bunch of employees into 4 teams/houses. Please suggest some wacky names. Help me out by sharing how you organized it!

With warm regards,

Hi Medha,

How many employees do you have? Are you going to have indoor or outdoor games? If outdoor, then you can hire a good playground and have athletics (50m, 100m, sack race, even 400m) for both men and women, cricket, football for men, and some team games for women such as handball. You can hire the umpires from the ground itself; they will help in administering the games. You can do the following to organize a good Sports Day:

1. Book a good sports ground.
2. Decide on the individual and team events you want to organize.
3. Make teams.
4. Provide different T-shirts or caps for the identification of teams.
5. Select a captain and vice-captain from each team.
6. Have a meeting with all captains and vice-captains and give them the list of events, rules for each event, etc.
7. Take the participants' names for each event, ensuring there is no repeat participant. Most of your employees should participate in at least one event.
8. Announce the schedule of events at least three days in advance and display it on the notice board.
9. Make arrangements for umpires or referees either internally or externally (if the ground provides it, even better). If external, the results will be impartial, and all your employees can take part in the event.
10. Provide good prizes such as medals for individual events and cups for team events. Establish a point system for each event, and the team with the maximum points can get a shield.
11. Keep some light snacks and plenty of water available.

One thing is certain; it takes a lot of commitment and effort from the organizers, but it's worth doing.

I hope this gives you some ideas. If you have any queries, feel free to get back to me.

Cheers,

Harshad
