Competencies cannot have a clear demarcation between junior, middle, and senior-level managers. Roughly, it can be said that middle-level managers need to have the competencies of junior-level managers and something extra. The corresponding requirement for senior-level managers is the competencies for middle-level managers plus something extra.
Levels of Competency
The possession of a competency cannot be described in two words: yes or no. This is because every competency has various levels. In general, these are:
Level 1: Awareness
Level 2: Basic
Level 3: Proficient
Level 4: Advanced
Level 5: Expert
So, for junior, middle, and senior-level managers, one needs to be clear about the level of competency they possess.
