Earlier, when the Factories Act was enacted, the practice was to paint the walls with a liquid of lime or calcium carbonate. It was to ensure that the walls of the factory were free from dirt, foul odor, and cobwebs. The same purpose could be served by painting the walls with emulsion paints. Therefore, you can substitute the lime washing by painting, and you can record the dates of painting the walls.
