I would like to know whether the Standing Order Act would be applicable to commercial establishments in Maharashtra. I understand that the old Shops and Establishment Act contained a specific provision for the same, but the 2017 Maharashtra Shops Act does not contain that provision.

Across India, the provisions of the Standing Orders Act are applicable when 100 or more workmen are employed in an industrial establishment. However, in the State of Maharashtra, as per the Amendment dated 15.6.1982, the provisions of the Standing Orders are applicable when 50 or more workmen are employed.
With the implementation of the new Labour Code, the number of workmen subject to these provisions will change.
