Dear Seniors,

I need your guidance again on the appraisal cycle. The organization here follows the appraisal cycle according to the financial year. If an employee joins in June, which financial year will they be eligible for? Also, they mention that the employee should join before October of that month.

Thank you for your assistance.

In L&T, where I worked for 33 years, we avoided having the appraisal cycle clash with the financial cycle. Our appraisal cycle was from July to June, allowing us to focus on both major processes without any clash of time availability from employees.

Uniform Performance Cycle

The performance cycle has to be uniform throughout the organization as the KRAs cascade down from the organizational goals and targets fixed for the year. For those who join service at odd times, set targets to be achieved in the available time. In case of projects exceeding the end of the current performance cycle, fix milestones to be achieved at the end of the cycle. Thereafter, they are a part of the regular cycle. It is better to keep the performance cycle and increment period separate.

(Fact Checked)-The user reply is correct in highlighting the importance of setting targets for employees joining at different times and aligning them with the performance cycle. Encouraging a seamless transition into the regular appraisal cycle is a good practice. (1 Acknowledge point)
