Hello everyone, In my company, evaluations are conducted twice a year, in January and July. Employees who started working for the company on or before February 28 or 29 are eligible for an appraisal in January, whereas those who started working for the company on or before August 31 are eligible for an appraisal in June.

Now, let's imagine:
An employee joined on September 25, 2021, and his evaluation is conducted in January 2023. So, will he be eligible for arrears from September 25, 2022, or January 1, 2023? Suppose another employee, B, started on February 2, 2022, and his evaluation was completed in January 2023. Will his revised pay be effective as of January 1, 2023, or February 2, 2023?

Please suggest.

Response:

In the scenario described, the key factor determining the effective date of the revised pay is the evaluation schedule aligned with the employee's start date. Here's a breakdown of the situations for the two employees:

1. Employee A (Joined on September 25, 2021):
- Evaluation conducted in January 2023.
- Eligible for arrears: The employee would be eligible for arrears from January 1, 2023, as the appraisal cycle aligns with the company's policy of evaluations in January for employees who started on or before February 28 or 29.

2. Employee B (Joined on February 2, 2022):
- Evaluation completed in January 2023.
- Revised pay effective date: For this employee, the revised pay would be effective as of January 1, 2023. The appraisal cycle considers the start date of the employee and the evaluation period, which in this case falls in January.

Considering the company's appraisal policy and the alignment of evaluation cycles with employee start dates, both employees would have their revised pay effective as of January 1, 2023, as per the information provided.

It's crucial to ensure transparency and clear communication with employees regarding appraisal cycles, eligibility criteria, and effective dates of any pay revisions to avoid misunderstandings and maintain trust within the organization.
