I joined an Indian software company in April, and now, without any explanation, they have laid me off. They are neither providing a reason for the layoff nor settling my account. I have been trying to follow up with them, but there has been no response. Currently, I have a MacBook with me. Should I return it to them before they respond, or how should I handle this matter? Please advise me on making the right decision.

Dear Abhay, You haven't mentioned in what capacity you worked—whether in the cadre of workman, supervisory, or managerial. Anyway, to set the remedial course of action into motion, it is better to lodge a complaint with the State Labor Commissioner. He would inquire into the matter through any of his subordinate officers for the area where the establishment is located. The return of the company's property in your possession can be decided later.
