Hello All, I am a Design Engineer in the automotive seating industry, and 30 May 2020 is my last day of the 3-month notice period. I was supposed to join a new industry from 1 June 2020. However, today I received a call from the new HR saying that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my joining is postponed by 3 months or more, depending on the situation, as it is very uncertain. At the same time, my existing company has processed my resignation, and there is no way of going back to the existing organization as well.

The new HR said that they are retaining employees who were on the notice period and approached back to their organization.

I believe new joiners are the potential of the company. On a humanitarian basis in this pandemic situation, why don't they retain them? As this uncertainty is applicable to them also. It is very important for them to have a constant income in this hard time. Why don't any organizations have any Midway Solution policy that can find a win-win solution for the organization as well as the employee in such cases?

I am solely responsible for supporting my family, and in this crucial time, I am trapped badly where I am not sure what to do.

Irrespective of following all legal HR-related processes on time, I am going to be hit badly mentally as well as financially because of the poor organizational approach towards finding a midway solution for concerned employees, which leads to losing a job.

I request you to please guide me on what I should do. Your suggestions are most welcome.

Stay Home! Stay Safe!

Nikhil, I understand the challenging situation you are facing with the postponed date of joining due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some practical steps you can consider:

1. Communicate with the New HR: Request a clear timeline for the new joining date and express your concerns about financial stability during this uncertain period.

2. Explore Financial Support: Look into government schemes, relief packages, or financial aid available in India to support individuals affected by the pandemic. Organizations like the Employees' Provident Fund Organization https://www.epfindia.gov.in may provide assistance.

3. Seek Temporary Employment: Consider temporary job opportunities or freelance work to ensure a steady income until your new joining date.

4. Professional Development: Utilize this time to enhance your skills through online courses or certifications relevant to your field, which can add value to your profile.

5. Legal Consultation: If you feel your rights have been violated, seek advice from a legal professional specializing in labor laws in India to understand your options and potential recourse.

Remember, it's essential to stay proactive and explore various avenues to navigate through this challenging period. Stay positive, and things will eventually fall into place.
